Pindari Glacier Trek

Pindari Glacier Trek is located in Uttarakhand in the Kumaon Himalayas. The trek passes through rhododendron forests, meadows, valleys, streams, and remote villages, and leads to the Pindari Glacier in the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, source of the Pindar River.

The route starts from Kharkia and goes via Khati, Dwali, and Phurkia to the glacier zero point. Along the trail, trekkers may see views of peaks such as Maiktoli, Panwali Dwar, Nandakot, Nanda Devi, Nanda Khat, Bauljuri, and Changuch. The route to Pindari and Kafni glaciers is the same until Dwali, where it splits.

The trek is described as moderate and suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. The trail has well-defined paths, a medium gradient, and includes some caved-in sections, landslide zones, stream crossings, and one minor pass-crossing.

The source states the trek is 50 km long and 6 days in duration. The maximum altitude is given as 12,300 ft, which converts to about 3,749 metres. The text also mentions the glacier zero point at 3,660 metres and elsewhere mentions 3,820 metres for the glacier; however, the stated maximum altitude for the trek is 12,300 ft.

The best time mentioned is summer and autumn, specifically mid-April to June and September to mid-November. The source also advises avoiding the monsoon season due to landslides and roadblocks.

Temperature ranges mentioned in the source are 15°C to 20°C during the day and 7°C to 2°C at night in April and May, and 15°C to 10°C during the day and 5°C to -5°C at night from September to November.
