Kedar Tal Trek
Kedar Tal Trek is a difficult trek in Uttarakhand that starts from Gangotri in Uttarkashi district and passes through Gangotri National Park. The trail moves through Bhojpatra forests, alpine meadows such as Bhoj Kharak and Kedar Kharak, and rugged high-altitude terrain with scree, boulders, and glacial moraines before reaching Kedartal Lake.
The trek is known for steep ascents, rocky paths, narrow exposed sections such as the Spider Wall, and rapid altitude gain. The route follows the Kedar Ganga River and offers views of peaks including Thalaysagar, Bhrigupanth, the Jogin group, and the Bhagirathi massif. Kedartal Lake lies at the base of surrounding snow-covered peaks and is described as a glacial lake with clear, reflective waters.
The best time for this trek is in summer and autumn, especially May, June, and October. Monsoon months are best avoided because the trail can become slippery and landslide-prone.
The trek typically takes 7 days and covers approximately 32 km. The highest point is Kedartal Lake at 15,500 ft, which is about 4,724 metres. Because of the quick ascent from Gangotri, there is a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), so acclimatization and physical fitness are important.

Itinerary
Drive from Dehradun to Gangotri, the base camp for the trek. Overnight stay at Gangotri.

Acclimatization day at Gangotri with a short hike around the area. You may explore local sites such as Pandav Gufa, Bhagirath Shila, and Surya and Gauri Kund before returning to base.

Begin trekking from Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak. The trail climbs steeply through Gangotri National Park, passing Bhojpatra forest and alpine sections before reaching the campsite at Bhoj Kharak.
